What is Ultherapy Prime?

Ultherapy Prime is the successor to the existing Ultherapy device, the latest model commonly referred to as 'Ultherapy 2'.

Ultherapy has one thing that other lifting devices don't: an ultrasound screen. It shows a real-time cross-section of the skin at the treatment area. The epidermis, dermis, fat layer, and the SMAS layer, which is the target for lifting, all appear layer by layer.

The biggest change in Prime is that screen. It's larger and clearer, making the layer boundaries much more visible. However, better equipment doesn't automatically make the treatment more precise. Ultimately, how closely one examines that screen determines the results.

Why is Kkeut Korean Medicine Clinic's Ultherapy Prime special?

One. We design while you are seated.

While the treatment is received lying down, the design is always first determined while you are seated.

When you lie down, the direction of gravity changes, and sagging tissues are pushed upwards. A lying face appears less saggy than it actually is. If you decide how much to lift where in that state, the areas that truly needed attention when you stand up will be missed.

There are two things we do at this stage.

First, we observe the actual state of sagging. We check which lines have collapsed, and where to apply stronger or weaker treatment, all while you remain seated.

Then, before starting the full-scale ultrasound treatment, we manually feel and visually inspect to determine the skin thickness of each area. Even within the same face, the thickness differs on the cheekbones, under the chin, and on the cheeks. This thickness dictates which areas will use a 4.5mm tip and which will use a 3.0mm tip.

In other words, tip selection is not made spontaneously during the procedure, but rather planned and designed for each area before the treatment begins.

When switching between tips, it's easy to spontaneously decide, 'Let's just use the tip we've been using for this area.' By first checking the thickness and making a plan, that possibility is eliminated.

This naturally differs from treatments that use the same tip and settings for the entire face.

Two. Kkeut Korean Medicine Clinic's Ultherapy Tilting Skill

The plan established in the previous step is based on manual and visual assessment. It is accurate but not perfect, as there are limitations to the information that can be gathered from outside the skin. A plan is just a plan; what's inside the body is revealed only when opened. The tool for this 'opening' is the ultrasound screen.

And it's one of the clear differences between Shurink and Ultherapy.

It's a bit of a complex topic, but understanding this will change how you view lifting treatments.

Ultherapy tips have a fixed depth. A 4.5mm tip focuses at 4.5mm, and a 3.0mm tip focuses at 3.0mm. The depth set by the tip is precisely that point.

However, the depth of the SMAS layer that we need to target varies from person to person, and even within the same face, it differs from one area to another. It's actually rare for this layer to neatly lie at 4.5mm or 3.0mm, precisely matching the tip specifications.

Let's say the SMAS layer is at 3.8mm. The 4.5mm tip would pass below it, and the 3.0mm tip would focus above it. If you apply the tip vertically and treat, both would miss the target. Energy would be delivered, but the layer that needs to be targeted wouldn't be affected.

In such cases, we tilt the tip diagonally. By adjusting the angle, the actual focal depth changes, allowing it to reach layers that lie between the standard tip depths. This is tilting.

To summarize, Kkeut Korean Medicine Clinic's Ultherapy proceeds as follows: while seated, we palpate and visually inspect to plan the tip and intensity for each area. During the actual treatment, we verify the layers on the screen and adjust the angle. If you only look at the screen without a plan, it becomes improvisational, and if you only have a plan without looking at the screen, you will miss the target. Both are necessary.

And this adjustment process takes time. We need to check the SMAS layer position on the screen for each area and readjust the angle where necessary. In terms of treatment speed alone, it's clearly a disadvantage. That's why it's also a step that's easy to skip.

Kkeut Korean Medicine Clinic dedicates that time.

For your information, depending on the design, there are cases where we deliberately target the fat layer instead of the SMAS layer. This is because areas with excessive volume cannot be effectively contoured by only tightening the SMAS. This choice is also only possible when observing the layers on the screen.

Three. We provide transparent documentation of the treatment you received today.

After the treatment, we give you a lifting card. It details which tips were used, how many shots were administered to each area, and the intensity applied to each region.

After a lifting treatment, there's usually no way to verify what exactly you received. Since it happens on your face, you can't see it yourself, and typically you only hear the total number of shots. 'I got 600 shots' — that's the only information that remains.

With the card, things change. It records where the focus was this time, and provides a basis for discussing how to approach your next visit differently from the last. If you receive treatments multiple times, your personal treatment history will accumulate.

Everywhere says they 'design' the treatment. We put that commitment in writing. Making it verifiable means we are confident in our work.

Four. 25mm, we do not reduce it.

Even with the same 600 shots, the content can differ. We want you to be aware of this.

One shot of Ultherapy is not a dot, but a line. It works by continuously administering ultrasound energy at very short intervals to create a line, and then arranging these lines parallel to each other to cover the face.

The standard length of this line is 25mm. It is the device's default and recommended value.

However, this length can be reduced in the settings.

What happens if you reduce it? The treatment becomes faster because the treatment time per shot is shortened. However, the area covered by one shot also decreases proportionally. Shorter lines require many more shots to cover the same area. In the end, the total number of shots might still be 600, but the actual amount of energy delivered is different.

The number is the same, but the content is different. This is something that can happen in lifting treatments.

Kkeut Korean Medicine Clinic performs treatments using the 25mm standard length. We will also transparently show you the device's setting screen before the treatment.

Ultherapy Prime Effects

Precise SMAS Layer Lifting Guided by Ultrasound Imaging

Using real-time ultrasound imaging, we visually confirm the exact location of the epidermis, dermis, fat layer, and SMAS layer. This allows us to precisely deliver energy, contracting lax fascial tissue and maximizing the lifting effect.

Personalized Depth Targeting with Tilting Technique

We utilize a tilting technique that angles the tip diagonally to precisely match the fascial layer depth, which varies among individuals and often falls between standard tip sizes. This ensures that energy accurately reaches the target tissue without scattering.

Refining Unnecessary Volume by Controlling the Fat Layer

For areas with excessive volume, as determined by your personalized design, we selectively target the fat layer using real-time layer confirmation. This goes beyond simply improving sagging, helping to create a smoother, more refined facial contour.

Uniform Elasticity Improvement with 25mm Standard Line Treatment

We fully maintain the recommended 25mm standard line length, never shortening it arbitrarily. This ensures comprehensive, dense elasticity and regeneration throughout the entire treated area, without any gaps.

UltheraPrime: Recommended For You

Individuals who wish to lift facial contours that have succumbed to gravity, such as a sagging jawline, jowls, or a double chin.

Those who prefer precise treatment based on their actual sagging while seated, rather than a rough design done while lying down.

Individuals who desire tip selection and tilting adjustments tailored to the specific skin thickness and SMAS layer depth of each area, such as around the eyes, cheeks, and jaw.

Those who wish to keep a record of their treatment with a transparent lifting card detailing the number of shots administered to each area.

Individuals who want the full assurance of the 25mm standard length, without shortcuts like shortening the treatment line just to complete the shot count.

UltheraPrime Treatment Process

Precise Design and Skin Thickness Assessment While Seated

To accurately assess actual sagging caused by gravity, we examine your facial lines while you are seated. We also physically check the skin thickness of various areas, such as the cheekbones, cheeks, and under the chin, to finalize the plan for using 3.0mm and 4.5mm tips beforehand.

Disclosure of 25mm Standard Setting Screen Before Treatment

We transparently confirm the device's 25mm standard setting value to you, ensuring that the treatment line length is not shortened for each shot.

Real-time Ultrasound Monitoring and Tilting Treatment

While you are lying down, we use the ultrasound screen to monitor the epidermis, dermis, fat layer, and SMAS layer in real-time. We then perform precise target treatment using a tilting technique, which involves angling the tip to finely adjust the focal depth.

Lifting Card Issuance and Treatment Result Confirmation

After your treatment, we will provide you with a lifting card that details the tip specifications used, the number of shots per area, and the energy intensity.

A Message from Our Director

"The effectiveness of lifting isn't solely generated by the equipment itself. It truly comes from the meticulous time and effort spent observing the ultrasound screen and precisely adjusting the tip's angle."

While UltheraPrime boasts a significantly larger and clearer real-time ultrasound screen, this advanced technology becomes meaningless if the tip is just mechanically moved without careful observation of the screen. Furthermore, when lying down, gravity can make the face appear less saggy, often leading to crucial areas being missed that actually require lifting when you stand upright.

At our clinic, we always begin by conducting a precise plan while you are seated, manually checking your actual sagging caused by gravity and the skin thickness of each area. We dedicate ample time to the tilting technique, meticulously adjusting the tip's angle to precisely match each individual's unique fascial layer depth. We strictly avoid shortcuts, such as reducing the 25mm standard length for quicker treatment. Just as we provide a lifting card detailing the treatment areas and shot counts, we commit to honest and transparent treatment, shot by shot, to deliver truly transformative results.

Post-Treatment Care Instructions

Immediate Skin Reaction: You may experience temporary redness or slight swelling as energy is delivered to the fascial and target layers, but this will gradually subside.

Internal Soreness and Tenderness: As the fascial tissue contracts and regenerates, you might experience a dull ache (similar to muscle soreness) for a few days when pressing around your jawline or bones. This is a normal part of the healing process.

Avoid Excessive Massage: To allow the treated ultrasound thermal coagulation points to settle stably and effectively lift the tissue, please avoid strong massages or pressing hard on the treated area.

Avoid High-Temperature Environments: To ensure stable skin soothing, please avoid environments that induce strong heat to your face, such as saunas, jjimjilbangs (Korean bathhouses), and excessive alcohol consumption, for a few days after your treatment.

Q&A

Q. What are the differences between the original Ulthera and UltheraPrime?

A. UltheraPrime is the latest 2nd generation successor to the original Ulthera. The most significant difference lies in the size and clarity of its ultrasound screen. The boundaries between the epidermis, dermis, fat layer, and SMAS layer are much clearer, allowing for more precise confirmation of tissue depth in the treatment area and virtually error-free treatment.

Q. Why is it essential to design the treatment while seated?

A. When a patient lies down, the direction of gravity shifts, causing sagging skin and soft tissues to pull back and upwards. This can make the face appear less saggy than it truly is. If the treatment is designed while lying down, the energy may not be accurately delivered to the actual sagging areas once the patient stands up. At our clinic, we meticulously assess your facial lines and skin thickness in each area while you are seated, manually confirming the appropriate tip type and shot distribution beforehand.

Q. Why is 'tilting' the tip necessary during treatment?

A. Ulthera tips are designed with fixed treatment depths, such as 3.0mm and 4.5mm. However, the SMAS layer in individuals varies in depth across different areas and often falls between these standard measurements, for example, at 3.8mm. If the tip is applied only vertically, it risks missing the target layer. Therefore, our clinic's precise tilting technique involves observing the ultrasound screen and angling the tip diagonally to ensure the focal point precisely reaches the SMAS layer.

Q. What does the 25mm standard length mean?

A. One Ultherapy shot is a 25mm long line formed by a continuous series of ultrasound thermal points. Reducing the length of this line in the equipment settings speeds up the procedure, but it reduces the area covered per shot, leading to insufficient total energy delivered. Kkeuthan Clinic strictly adheres to the standard 25mm treatment length and transparently shows you the equipment setting screen.

Q. What is the lifting card received after the procedure?

A. It is a genuine procedure confirmation document that records for the patient the specifications of the tips used today (e.g., 3.0mm, 4.5mm), how many shots were administered to which area, and the intensity for each area, allowing you to directly verify it. It serves as a basis for more precise customized planning based on your past treatment history during your next visit.

Q&A

Q&A

Answers to the questions we hear most.

How many shots should I get?

QnA

Since this method fills the entire face with thin lines, a minimum number of shots is required relative to the area. We usually recommend 600 shots or more. However, the appropriate number of shots varies depending on face size, degree of sagging, and the area that needs focused treatment. It's more accurate to decide together when planning the design during consultation.

I've heard it's very painful; should I get general anesthesia?

QnA

It's true that there's stimulation as energy penetrates deep layers. However, most people receive it with topical cream anesthesia, and many even receive it without any anesthesia. We do not recommend general anesthesia. There's a reason for this. Ulthera is a procedure where ultrasound is delivered while the tip is in close contact with the skin. This close contact must be maintained for the energy to be accurately delivered to the intended layer. However, under general anesthesia, your head might move unknowingly. If the tip lifts at that moment, the treatment position can shift, and depending on the situation, it could be dangerous. If you are awake, this will not happen. The sensations you feel during the procedure can also serve as signals telling you where the energy is being delivered. If you are concerned about pain, we can help you with topical cream anesthesia. Please feel free to let us know.

I don't have much fat, so I'm worried about cheek hollowing.

QnA

The SMAS layer targeted by Ulthera is a different layer from volume. Sagging occurs not only due to excess fat but also when the SMAS layer stretches, even if there's little fat. In fact, for those with less volume, the supporting structure is weaker, which can make the lines appear more collapsed. Therefore, it's a necessary procedure regardless of whether you have much fat or not. However, the less volume you have, the more crucial it is to design the treatment to precisely target only the SMAS, avoiding the fat layer. The design and tilting mentioned earlier become significant here. Since it varies depending on your condition, we recommend deciding after a consultation.

When do the effects start to appear?

QnA

Immediately after the procedure, you might feel a slight pulling sensation, which is more of a temporary reaction. In the initial stage, swelling often accompanies it. This is a natural reaction as strong energy penetrates the deep layers. While there are individual differences, changes usually begin to appear gradually after about 1 month. This procedure involves a process of tissue restructuring after thermal stimulation, so it requires time.

How often should I receive the treatment?

QnA

It varies depending on the degree of sagging, so a consultation is needed. Generally, if you receive the recommended number of shots, we advise intervals of 6 months to 1 year. If you receive fewer than the recommended shots and choose to divide the treatment, we guide you to complete it with 1-month intervals.

Are there any good treatments to receive together?

QnA

Ulthera targets deep layers. Skin texture and elasticity of the superficial layers are separate areas, so the layers do not overlap. Therefore, many people combine it with treatments that address superficial layers, such as Density, Onda, or Tensharma. The best combination depends on your skin condition, so we will advise you during the consultation.

AFTERCARE GUIDE

Cautions

Results = Treatment × Aftercare. Please follow the notes below.

  • Mild heat, swelling, or pain may be felt in the treated area for about 1-2 weeks.

  • Occasionally, subcutaneous nerves may be temporarily stimulated, leading to a dull sensation in the affected area.
